The Supplemental Instruction Program (SI) at Dixie State University (DSU) is a joint venture between Academic Support and Student Support and provides DSU students an opportunity to improve their understanding of course material and grades at no additional cost.
If you are wondering whether you should go to an SI session: stop and just go. SI sessions have created an environment in which I can get the best information from my course by learning from my peers. They’ve forced me to study consistently and have boosted my exam confidence astronomically!
I was really nervous about taking and passing this course but because of my SI course I’ve done really well. I like to learn from my peers and hear other people’s perspectives about the class and what we’re learning.
The SI sessions were really beneficial. I was able to get more information from SI about the topics covered in class that I wasn’t able to feel confident about doing it myself. I was able to learn more about the note taking strategies that helped me in other classes too.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a nontraditional form of tutoring that focuses on collaboration, group study, and interaction for assisting students in undertaking “traditionally difficult” courses. SI targets courses with a minimum 30% rate of students that drop, withdraw, or fail, and then provides a trained peer who has successfully negotiated the course to assist its future students.Learn more
